Portrait by sarah bodri

Hi! I’m Melissa

and I’m never sure how to introduce myself.

I’m a PhD candidate, a writer, a teacher, and a bourgeoning kitchenwares maker who loves watching the turkey vultures glide over the York Street bridge in my home, Ohròn:wakon (Hamilton, Ontario).

Everything I do is always somehow related to food. From my work as an academic, to my writing, to my creative practices, thinking about food, cooking, and eating plays a big role in how I move through the world.

You can learn more about my academic work by perusing my CV, read some of my public writing here, and visit foodstuff studio to explore my craft.

I try to contextualize the following more helpfully in my writing, but if you’re just popping in there are a few things I’d like to make very clear: I’m a white settler of Italian heritage whose not into nationalism. My pronouns are she/her and I love trans people. Everyone deserves access to good food and housing 😘

Thanks for being here!
